Thank you, NIH — now let’s finish the job. On June 15, 2026, the NIH announced a new office to advance human-based research and reduce animal testing. That is real, historic progress.
But reducing animal use isn’t enough. We need to end it — and free the dogs already trapped in facilities like Marshall BioResources.
A historic step — and why it can’t stop here
On June 15, 2026, the NIH announced the Office of Research Innovation, Validation, and Application (ORIVA) to develop, validate, and scale New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) — 3D human tissue models, computational tools, and other animal-free methods that can better reflect human biology.

We are grateful. This is the direction science must go. But a goal to “reduce or eliminate animal use where appropriate” still leaves dogs bred and sold for experiments right now. We’re asking NIH to go all the way: commit to fully ending — not just reducing — testing on dogs, and help free the ones already trapped.
Most people don't know that this place exists.
Marshall BioResources (MBR) is a facility in upstate New York, at 5800 Lake Bluff Road, North Rose, NY 14516. MBR breeds and sells beagles (and other animals) for a single purpose: to sell them to laboratories for experimentation.
That experimentation is called vivisection — the practice of testing on living animals. Beagles are the breed of choice because they are gentle, trusting, and do not fight back. They are chosen specifically because of their kindness.
MBR is one of the largest dog-breeding labs left in the United States — selling beagles that have never seen sunlight, never felt grass, and never felt love, to be experimented on in the name of science. With the NIH now backing animal-free methods, this is exactly the cruelty we can finally end. These dogs don’t need to be sold and experimented on anymore.
These dogs need to be rescued as soon as possible.
What we’re asking the NIH
Go all the way
Build on ORIVA by committing to fully end — not just reduce — testing on dogs, on a clear timeline.
Defund the breeders
Stop funding the purchase of dogs from breeders like Marshall BioResources, and invest in the human-based methods NIH just endorsed.
Free the dogs now
Help release the beagles already trapped at MBR to accredited rescue — the way Ridglan’s dogs were freed.
